Dallas instantly reacts to Max Wober admission on Leeds United today

Max Wober made the most of his opportunity for Leeds United against Derby County after a “difficult” season so far, Stuart Dallas has said.

Speaking on Sky Sports (7 December, 2:27 pm), Dallas instantly reacted to Wober’s post-match comments after the Austrian came off the bench to score the Whites’ game-sealing goal in a 2-0 win at Elland Road.

Wober had said at full-time that he’d “really struggled” this term due to his lack of game-time, but after netting a first Peacocks goal in his fourth appearance of the season, the defender was backed to kick on.

“He said it there himself that he’s had a difficult season so far. I think obviously with the injury – another player who went away last year, and for whatever reasons has come back in,” Dallas said.

“So it’s been hard for him, but he’s over the injury now and I’m delighted he’s getting his opportunity.”

Max Wober to stake Leeds United starting claim after Derby display

Dallas is the last player to win promotion as United’s regular starting left-back, and with Farke’s side being in the same boat this season, his encouragement has plenty of weight behind it.

Wober has indeed seen his opportunities massively limited at Elland Road this term, starting with a low position in the pecking order after spending last season out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Meniscus surgery back in mid-October certainly didn’t help the 26-year-old’s bid to stake his starting claims in the side, with Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon an unbreakable partnership in central defence.

Left-back, particularly given Junior Firpo’s latest injury setback, looks to be the most likely avenue into the starting XI for Wober, and his close-range finish against Derby will certainly do those aims no harm.

Dallas proved to be a consistent and versatile constant at left-back in United’s title-winning 2019/20 season, and his example is one Wober should look to follow if he wants to hold down a place in the team.

In other Leeds news, one forgotten United star could return to Elland Road in January thanks to a bizarre clause in his contract.
