Crysencio Summerville misses Leeds United win v Schalke, journalist reveals why
Crysencio Summerville was forced to sit on the sidelines as Leeds United beat Schalke in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, according to Beren Cross.
The LeedsLive journalist reported via X on 27 July that Summerville, 22, missed the game due to a “hamstring complaint” and not because of recent speculation linking the Dutch winger with a move away from Elland Road.
Leeds won the game 2-0 thanks to goals by Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe.
Will Summerville leave Leeds United this summer?
Leeds fans have already had their biggest nightmare become a reality this summer when Archie Gray left for Tottenham.
Although it was ultimately a deal that made sense for the Whites financially and also gave Gray the platform he deserves to showcase his talent on, it was still one that was hard to stomach for the Elland Road faithful.
Leeds fans have also had to deal with Summerville being continually linked with a move this summer because – similarly to Gray – he’s a player whose talents far exceed what is expected in the Championship.
Last season, the ex-Feyenoord attacker scored 19 goals and supplied nine assists in 43 league appearances but couldn’t help Daniel Farke’s side to win promotion the Premier League.
He’s since been linked with a host of Premier League clubs with CaughtOffside reporting on 26 July that West Ham are currently in the lead to sign him.
It’s understood that the Hammers are the only team to have made a “convincing approach” for the winger at this stage but Chelsea, Brighton and Aston Villa are also being linked.
CaughtOffside added that West Ham are “planning fresh contact with Leeds in a bid to finalise a move” for Summerville.
Leeds fans will be praying that’s not the case.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are stunned by speculation linking a defender with a shock move away from Elland Road.
