Crysencio Summerville injury update at Leeds United as he avoids broken ankle

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville has avoided a broken ankle after being injured against Southampton, as confirmed post-match by Daniel Farke.

The manager told BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope that he was “just glad” that Summerville hasn’t broken any bones, following a “bad foul” late in their 2-1 loss against Southampton.

Farke will be hoping that Summerville, along with Daniel James and Patrick Bamford, will all be fit enough to return for Leeds in their play-off semi-final ties against Norwich City.

Pope posted on X with the news, saying: “(Farke) thinks (Summerville) will be ok, and just glad he hasn’t broken his ankle.”

Leeds United and Summerville preparing for play-off campaign

Leeds United were unable to produce a final-day miracle against Southampton in their 46th and final match of the (regular) Championship season.

Needing to win and hoping that second-placed Ipswich would suffer a shock home defeat to relegated Huddersfield in their corresponding fixture, Leeds couldn’t keep up their side of the bargain and lost 2-1 at home to the Saints.

Ipswich cantered to a comfortable 2-0 victory at Portman Road to seal the second automatic promotion place behind Leicester, as Leeds conceded on the counter with 10 minutes to go before half-time; Will Smallbone putting Southampton 2-1 up.

Summerville was marked closely and constantly on the left wing, unable to produce much of the magic which was seen him register over 30 goal contributions in all competitions this season, and a late challenge from Joe Rothwell left him clutching his ankle.

The Dutchman was able to get back to his feet and finish the game, and after been cleared of serious injury, Farke will be hoping that Summerville can excel once again as Leeds try and navigate their way back to the Premier League via the dreaded play-offs.
