Cooper gets Scotland call-up

Liam Cooper has been a rock at the back for Leeds this season and his impressive performances, alongside Brighton loanee Ben White, haven’t gone unnoticed.

Cooper was named in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad to face Belgium and Russia in next month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers today, with the 28-year-old still looking for his first international cap.

Cooper played for the Scotland Under-19 side and has been called up for the senior squad in 2016 and 2017 without making an appearance.

Leeds boast the Championship’s best defence having only conceded two goals in five league games. Fulham and Swansea are the closest sides to them, having conceded four apiece.

Swansea are currently second in the Championship and should pose the toughest test to the Leeds backline when they visit Elland Road on Saturday.

Cooper was missing for the last game, the 3-0 win against Stoke, although manager Marcelo Bielsa said afterwards he could have played but wasn’t 100%. Cooper played the full 90 minutes in each of the four previous games.
