Confirmed: Wilfried Gnonto and Jamie Shackleton available for Leeds United clash v Norwich City, four ruled out

Leeds United will welcome back Wilfried Gnonto and Jamie Shackleton for the clash with Norwich, but will be without four players Daniel Farke has confirmed.

Gnonto and Shackleton missed recent games through injury but the manager confirmed they have returned to team training during the international break, while Junior Firpo has also returned to training with the team.

But Firpo is still a few weeks away from being available for selection after missing five months of action, while Djed Spence is still a few weeks away and Stuart Dallas is still “a while” away from a return. Leo Hjelde is also unavailable after picking up a knock during the break.

“Willy is back in team training since last Sunday so no problems so far,” he said. “He hasn’t played for a while so not 100%, but he’s definitely available for the game.

“Also Jamie Shackleton available and back in training since last week. Junior Firpo is back in team training since Tuesday and had a full session, but he trained alone today. The next step will be that he can join us during the whole training week and he needs a few weeks to be ready and available.”

Momentum

Leeds are in a fantastic place right now after the big win before the international break, and the injury front looks decent for once.

Farke has got options all over the pitch and has an abundance of talent to choose from, which should make picking his team a little bit more difficult.

But those are the types of problems that we want to have and with five games between now and the next international break, there is a chance to really build some momentum on the pitch and start making a real charge for those automatic promotion places.

It’s surely going to be a chance for some fringe players like Ilia Gruev, Charlie Cresswell and Patrick Bamford to get some more meaningful minutes too which means competition for places improves.

This is the chance to get back to the grind with another win, and with each of the next two games taking place away from Elland Road the performances are extra important to prove we are a real threat.
