Confirmed Leeds United starting XI v Chelsea

Leeds United have confirmed their starting XI for their third Premier League match of the season against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Marsch has made one change to the side that drew 2-2 with Southampton with Dan James replacing Patrick Bamford.

Bamford has dropped out of the matchday squad completely and has been replaced by Joe Gelhardt on the Leeds United bench.

Luis Sinisterra is also present on the bench after making a late substitute appearance at St Mary’s last week.

Tough test

This promises to be the first real acid test for Marsch’s side after opening the Premier League campaign with a set of favourable fixtures against Wolves and Southampton.

Chelsea have been underestimated heading into the new campaign but demonstrated conclusively in their last match at home to Tottenham that they are still very much amongst the best teams in England and indeed Europe for that matter.

Leeds will be hoping for the likes of Jack Harrison and Rodrigo to continue their good early-season form with the Spanish striker certainly silencing a few critics after struggling for form in the 2021/22 season.

The 2-2 draw with Southampton was a difficult one for Marsch to take after moving into a two-goal lead against the South Coast club.

Four goals in two games has been a good attacking return for Leeds, but Chelsea’s imperious defence will provide a good measure of how far Marsch’s side have come since they secured their survival against Brentford on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
