Cocu: Leeds are a very good team
Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has said that Leeds are “a very good team” ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday.
Leeds are currently top of the league while Derby are struggling after the departure of Frank Lampard and key players in 19th.
Lampard left for Chelsea over the summer, while players like Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Harry Wilson also left after their loans finished.
There is history between the two sides. The spygate scandal started after a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s staff was spotted outside the Derby ground.
Leeds beat Derby twice in the league last season and again in the first leg of the play-off semi-final at Pride Park. However, a 4-2 defeat at Elland Road, after Leeds had gone a goal up, condemned us to another year in the Championship.
Meanwhile, Derby lost to Aston Villa in the play-off final.
Talking to the Derby website, Cocu said, “It will be a big occasion, absolutely. They play very well and are a very good team.
“It is a game of football, anything is possible. If we can bring our game to this match, we know we can be a hard team to beat. It is a difficult game, but it is always possible to get a result.
“They can play football, but we can play as well. We have to show our performance against Cardiff was not just a single game, we need to do it again against Leeds and then against Birmingham after that.”
The bookies have Leeds as short as 5/12 to win at Elland Road. If you can’t get to the game it’s being shown live on Sky Sports on Saturday lunchtime.
