Clinton Morrison warns Leeds about 'ridiculously good' side in promotion chase

talkSPORT pundit Clinton Morrison has warned Leeds United and West Brom to be careful about the threat of Brentford, who he claims are playing “ridiculously good football’ at the moment.

Leeds are four points clear at the top after drawing 1-1 with Luton at Elland Road on Tuesday night and six ahead of Brentford in third.

However, Brentford are the form side at the top at the moment – they’ve won all of their three games since the season resumed and haven’t conceded a goal.

Those games have included Wes Brom and Fulham which has put them in with a realistic shot at the top two.

Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 10am) Morrison was asked whether Leeds would get promoted after their latest setback.

“I still think Leeds will do it, but Leeds and West Brom be careful, Brentford are playing ridiculously good football at the moment.

“Leeds were all over Luton last night and I believe Leeds will get over the line and be in the Premier League next season. But the Championship is such an exciting league.”

Morrison also said he was surprised that Leeds had no back-up for Patrick Bamford, who missed a sitter against Luton last night.

“Bamford scores really important goals and he’s a decent player but I’m surprised a club like that didn’t go out and buy a number nine as competition for him.

“But they’re still doing it. They’ve got players like Pablo Hernandez who is outstanding. They’ve got Kalvin Phillips and Ben White.”

Brentford are only two points behind West Brom, which puts huge pressure on them tonight when they face Sheffield Wednesday.

In stark contrast to Brentford, the Baggies haven’t scored a goal since the season resumed.

The Championship table shows Brentford’s resurgence is no fluke. Aside from Wigan, who have had an incredible 2020 after being favourites for relegation, Brentford are the form team this calendar year.

Leeds are sitting back in fifth but it’s West Brom who really have to be worried – they’re outside the play-off spots in terms of 2020 form.

If it’s only Brentford that can realistically catch Leeds or West Brom, then it’s two from three and Leeds just need to keep themselves ahead of the Baggies.

A Sheffield Wednesday win tonight would be a big boost.
