Clinton Morrison stunned by ‘terrible’ Byram moment in Leeds win v Plymouth

Sam Byram had an afternoon to forget for Leeds United against Plymouth after disappointing moments at both ends of the pitch.

Daniel Farke’s side clinched the Championship title on Saturday (3 May) by beating Plymouth 2-1 at Home Park.

Manor Solomon scored a last-gasp winner to send the away end into delirium after the Whites had made difficult work of things on the South Coast.

And a lot of that struggle was down to Byram, who, after scoring an own-goal to put Plymouth ahead, left Clinton Morrison stunned after another disappointing moment at Home Park.

Morrison shocked by Byram miss for Leeds v Plymouth

In the end, Farke’s side were all smiles as they claimed the Championship title against Plymouth.

However, things could have panned out very differently at Home Park, largely due to Byram. While the defender could do little about the own goal he scored, he had a chance to make amends in the second half, and should have done a lot more with his opportunity.

Having equalised through Gnonto, the Whites had a chance to take the lead midway through the second half as eventual goalscorer Solomon whipped in a vicious cross from a corner.

However, Byram failed to convert with a free header, and Morrison couldn’t believe it.

While speaking live on Sky Sports News (3 May, 1:56 pm), the 45-year-old said, “He [Byram] should have scored.

“It is a corner, a free header, it is a great opportunity, it is whipped in from Solomon, it is a free header, it is terrible, he just puts it wide of the post. I know he is going away from goal, but it is a great chance.”

Leeds clinch the Championship v Plymouth

Byram almost single-handedly cost Leeds the Championship title by scoring an own goal and missing a chance to put the Whites in front. However, fortunately for the 31-year-old, Leeds are going up as champions thanks to Solomon’s late goal.

Therefore, the Whites will now be focused on preparing for life back in the Premier League.

However, despite guiding his team to the title, Farke’s future remains uncertain, with the German subject to a mocking chant from Plymouth fans on Saturday.

For now, Farke will enjoy the celebrations. However, it remains to be seen if he will be in the dugout at Elland Road next season.
