Chris Sutton blasts Wolves keeper Jose Sa for awful error in Leeds United clash live on BT Sport
Chris Sutton slammed Wolves keeper Jose Sa for his error as Leeds United came from behind to win 2-1 in their first game of the season.
After going one down through a Daniel Podence goal early the Whites battled back and Rodrigo fired an equaliser home mid-way through the first half, thanks to a terrible piece of goalkeeping from the Portuguese Sa.
The 29-year-old let shot from United’s record signing slip in underneath him at the near post, and Sutton characteristically didn’t hold back with his criticism.
Speaking live on BT Sport Score, despite not even being the designated pundit for the game at Elland Road, on Saturday afternoon (6 August, 3.25pm) he could be heard exclaiming as Lucy Ward described the goal: “Oh the goalkeeping!”
He then went on to say: “It’s rubbish goalkeeping. Should he not go with his feet there? I’m not a goalkeeping expert but I would have saved that.
“It’s so wide, he shouldn’t be… it’s gone under him!”
In a game where momentum shifted from Leeds in the first half, to Wolves in the second, and back again, it was very encouraging that Jesse Marsch’s side got the result.
In an attacking sense there was a lot to be pleased with, especially new boy Brenden Aaronson and fit-again Patrick Bamford.
The pair combined to force the winner via a Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal, and Rodrigo was more than happy to accept the assistance from the visiting keeper to let his hard low shot in.
There will still be a lot of questions to answer, particularly in defence where the absence of Liam Cooper once again meant there was a lack of confidence and organisation.
But during the second half there was a long period were Wolves were well on top, and last season that might have ended with the Whites conceding a number of goals.
That didn’t happen, with goalkeeper Illan Meslier very impressive in goal, so points on the board from the first game of the year has to be the key positive.
In other Leeds United news, the Man of the Match delivered a 9/10 but there were some worrying flops in the player ratings from the game.
