CBS journalist fumes at Leeds United duo Diego Llorente and Junior Firpo after performances v Cardiff City
Jake Winderman has blasted Leeds duo Diego Llorente and Junior Firpo for their performances against Cardiff, labelling it as an “absolute joke”.
The Whites made seven changes to their side, including both defenders returning to the lineup for the game, but found themselves 2-0 down inside the first half after poor defending from the team.
And CBS journalist Winderman, who is a confessed Leeds fan, was quick to point out that their return coincided with a really poor defensive display from the team.
“Diego Llorente and Junior Firpo go back into the squad and the defense looks even worse than usual,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (8 January).
“This is an absolute joke.”
It was a horror show of a first-half performance for Leeds, and Firpo and Llorente were always going to find themselves at the forefront of criticism.
Both players have struggled with their form this season, with Firpo barely playing due to injuries and the fact he’s been awful, but this was another level of bad.
Against a team struggling in the division below, it should have been a straightforward display from the team to progress into the next round.
Instead we were embarrassed and lucky to come away with a draw, and that should be the end of Firpo’s career at Elland Road now, especially after the signing of Max Wober.
Llorente somehow got a new deal, so he won’t be going anywhere, any time soon, but hopefully we’ll be seeing less of him as a first-team regular going forward from now on.
Enough is enough and these two have been below the level for far too long now. It’s time to move on from them.
