Calvert-Lewin concern raised live on air after what he did in Leeds loss v Tottenham

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a talking point once again for Leeds on Saturday.

Leeds United fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday, continuing their miserable record against the North London side.

Mathys Tel gave the visitors the lead, not long before the Whites had a handful of chances that they failed to take at Elland Road.

One of those fell to Calvert-Lewin, whose preceding actions led him to being called out live on TNT Sports.

Calvert-Lewin missed another glorious opportunity for Leeds

Calvert-Lewin scored for Leeds in their win against Wolves a few weeks ago, and from then on, it looked as though he was going to prove key for the Whites in an offensive sense.

However, he failed to carry that performance into Leeds’ draw against Bournemouth, and then once again into their latest defeat at home to Spurs.

Just minutes after Spurs took the lead, Calvert-Lewin found himself in a dangerous area before firing an effort wide and high.

Commentating live on TNT Sports, Lucy Ward said: “It’s a gift. It’s a gift from Spurs to Leeds. It just wasn’t taken by Calvert-Lewin.

“He did really well to let the ball run, probably one or two touches too many before firing the trigger.

“He probably thinks that he did enough to force that ball over the top, but you know, games like this, he’s had a few opportunities this season. Calvert-Lewin has not scored enough.”

Joel Piroe needs to be given a chance at Leeds

Joel Piroe scored 19 times for Leeds in the Championship last season, and while he may not be the full product, he scores goals when the chances emerge.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t been, and the longer that goes, the more points the Whites will drop in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke praised Piroe ahead of the Tottenham game, labelling his finishing ability as “world-class”, and yet opted to keep him on the bench.

If Calvert-Lewin’s form in front of goal doesn’t improve, it will only be a matter of time until Piroe is handed a chance to make his mark in the Premier League.
