Calvert-Lewin brutally summed up in two words on Sky Sports, Leeds fans were warned

Leeds United were on the receiving end of a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

A late own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson in the 94th minute wiped out the clean sheet that Karl Darlow and the rest of the Leeds defence had worked so hard for.

With Leeds reportedly arriving late to the game, it will be an afternoon that Daniel Farke will quickly want to forget.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin making his first Premier League start for Leeds, Michael Dawson gave his verdict on Leeds’ new number nine.

Michael Dawson labels Dominic Calvert-Lewin ‘bang average’

Calvert-Lewin was not the only Leeds attacker to struggle, with Brenden Aaronson also failing to have an impact at Craven Cottage.

Despite Lukas Nmecha carrying a knock for Leeds, he replaced Calvert-Lewin with just over 20 minutes to go as Farke’s feelings on the former Evertonian’s performance became clear.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, former Tottenham defender Dawson was labelled Calvert-Lewin’s display against Fulham “bang average” when asked by Simon Thomas how he felt the striker played.

Dawson then went on to say: “Yeah, very poor. He didn’t get much service, but he did have one opportunity. He hit the target, but he has to score.

“When you’re in a Leeds team, you’re not creating loads of chances, so when it comes from seven yards out, you have to take it.”

Although Leeds were the better side throughout the game, their lack of threat in the final third came back to bite them late on.

Leeds were told by Everton fans to expect Calvert-Lewin to miss rare chances that fall his way, which is exactly what has been the case so far.

Daniel Farke’s side must find a way to create more opportunities

Whilst Farke’s men looked solid again for the most part, excluding a moment of madness from Gudmundsson, they cannot afford to let so many games hang in the balance.

With Leeds still yet to find the back of the net from open play, they are asking their backline to be perfect to ensure that they come away from games with a result, which, in the Premier League, is unrealistic.

After a valuable point was snatched from under their noses, Leeds will now travel to play Wolves next week, knowing that they must return to West Yorkshire with three points.
