Burnley player ‘lucky’ after Jayden Bogle incident v Leeds United

Lyle Foster was “lucky” not to receive further punishment after a challenge on Leeds United defender Jayden Bogle, according to Don Goodman.

Daniel Farke rolled the die with his team selection for the trip to Turf Moor (27 January), and he will return to West Yorkshire with a share of the spoils following the 0-0 draw after a lifeless first-half performance.

However, the visitors threatened on occasion, and Goodman believes Foster was “lucky” to escape further consequences – when speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event (27 January, 9:24pm) – after he shoved Bogle to the ground on the byline of the Burnley penalty area.

He said: “Bogle’s not happy, but you’ve got to applaud the work ethic of the two wide players.

“Trust me, no forward really wants to be sprinting back fifty-sixty yards, I think he’s lucky, Lyle Foster, because I think it is a foul.”

Leeds United struggle to send a statement against Burnley

Luca Koleosho secured a 1-0 win for Burnley in the return fixture at Elland Road earlier this season – Farke has failed to return the favour.

Although the Whites form on the road this season has been questionable, to say the least, the visitors were quietly confident they would extend their lead at the top of the Championship.

Now, the race for the title is shaping up between four sides heading into the business end of the season – only five points separate fourth-placed Sunderland from Leeds at the summit.

Despite the Whites remaining in a strong position to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this term, matches against those around you, in particular, are the ones Farke must find a way to win.

Bogle’s frustrations boiled over when he received a yellow card for arguing with the officials following Foster’s challenge.

The encounter is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but the right-back has picked up eight yellow cards this season, and we are only in January.

The 24-year-old has caught the eye several times for his “fantastic” displays throughout the campaign, but he must learn to stay composed when the match is not going in his favour.

Whether the draw is one point earned or two points dropped is up to Farke to decide – nevertheless, the title race is well and truly on at Elland Road.
