BT Sport pundit: One Leeds player was so good he left Villa player standing saying 'Wow'

One of Patrick Bamford’s goals in the Leeds United win against Aston Villa was so good it left keeper Emiliano Martinez saying “Wow”, according to regular BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand.

Bamford scored a hat-trick on Friday night and there have been pundits queueing up to praise him ever since.

His first was a real poacher’s goal after Rodrigo’s shot/cross was palmed out by Martinez.

His second was a thing of beauty – a shot with minimal backlift that hit the top corner.

“Wow, Bamford, Patrick Bamford,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.

“I have to hold my hands up and say that I didn’t expect him to be doing as well as he’s doing, I have to say, but the kid has talent and class.

“The three finishes at Villa Park were absolutely sublime, they were beautiful.

“The one with no backlift, bang, top corner, you see the goalkeeper Martinez go, “Wow!”. It was unbelievable.

“The other one where he dances in the box, it’s like he’s on the dancefloor at a nightclub.”

20 goals in 20/21

Six goals in six games… where can Bamford go from here?

His confidence is sky high and there’s no reason why he can’t notch 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

Leeds create chances. Bamford will get plenty of opportunities to score and he is convinced he’s going to take them this season.

Talking after the game (BT Sport, Friday, 10pm), Bamford acknowledged that he’d missed a couple of chances in the first half.

However, what he said next was key. He said he knew he’d get another chance and that he knew he’d take it.

Leicester are up next and they’ll represent a very different challenge.

Brendon Rodger is a great tactician but Leicester have been all over the place this season. They lost 3-0 to West Ham and 1-0 to Aston Villa but beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.

If Bamford can score again on Monday night then we think he’s a shoe-in for 20 and that would be a massive achievement for him.
