Bristol City guilty of Josuha Guilavogui howler ahead of Leeds United clash

Bristol City were guilty of a howler ahead of the clash against Leeds United on Saturday (26 October) with a major spelling error on the team sheets.

Josuha Guilavogui was named on the Whites’ bench at Ashton Gate – or at least Joshua Guilavogui has according to Bristol City.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue reported the error on X, as the Robins joins the long list of those failing to grasp their head around the Frenchman’s unusual first name.

Josuha Guilavogui could make his Leeds United debut v Bristol City

Daniel Farke finally found his man in Guilavogui as the German scoured the free agent market for midfield reinforcements to fill the void left by long-term absentees Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev.

The 34-year-old can fill in at defensive midfield and centre-back and, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk the only available options in central defence at Elland Road, the Frenchman’s acquisition was a no-brainer for the club.

While in all likelihood Guilavogui may not see the pitch for his Leeds debut at Ashton Gate, his presence in the dugout eases the concerns of the supporters who had feared for the side amid the ongoing injury crisis.

However, he is merely a stop-gap for an ongoing problem, and with Ao Tanaka taking his game “a level above” in the absence of the regular starters, it may be the Frenchman will not be needed to do more than see out the final minutes of games at Elland Road.

Regardless of his role, Championship sides will need to get used to spelling his first name correctly moving forward.
