Brenden Aaronson ‘oustanding’ as Leeds United ace wows with what he did v Sheffield Wednesday
Leeds United gem Brenden Aaronson left Andy Hinchliffe blown away with an “outstanding” moment against Sheffield Wednesday.
Daniel Farke’s side picked up their first victory of the Championship season with a 2-0 win at Hillsborough on Friday (22 August) thanks to a strike from the American international and Dan James.
While the 23-year-old has been a controversial figure at Elland Road having left on loan last summer, he wowed the travelling fans and Sky Sports pundit Hinchliffe with his composed finish against the Owls.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (23 August, 20:24) he said: “Once that press is bypassed brilliantly by Leeds, they’re short of defensive numbers.
“There’s no cohesion between the back four, they’re all watching the ball and not watching their runners. It looks as though Joseph has got behind and it looks as if he has done enough with that sliding challenge but Aaronson has done so well.
“The way that he shifts that ball from right foot to left and then dinks it over the goalkeeper is outstanding. Great awareness, great balance and exactly the finish that he needed.”
Will Brenden Aaronson exit Leeds United after Elland Road transfer update
Just a few months ago, no Leeds United fans would have been expecting to see Aaronson playing a starring role in Farke’s side, but the US international showed that he still has plenty to offer in a Whites shirt.
He may not be as complete a player as Georginio Rutter or Crysencio Summerville and the manner of his exit last term was poor, but the 23-year-old can produce moments of magic as he showed in the clash at Hillsborough.

His composure showed experience beyond his years as he didn’t panic in the penalty area and instead just calmly lifted the ball into the back of the net before wheeling off in celebration.
That goal alone will have won back sections of the Leeds fanbase. Hopefully, Aaronson will remain a Whites player beyond the 30 August transfer deadline as he could be key in Farke’s side’s bid to return to the Premier League.
