Brazil World Cup legend sends video message to Leeds star after 1-0 win v Everton

Raphinha was the hero for Leeds United on Saturday, scoring the winning goal against Everton with a brilliant long-range strike.

He won plaudits from a lot of people after his performance, including pundits like Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, but he was also congratulated from further afield.

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, who won the World Cup in 2002, sent him a video message that Raphinha posted on his Instagram story after the game.

In the message, Raphinha said, “Very happy to receive this message of affection and an honour to receive a video of my idol.”

Brazilian journalist Gabriel Dudziak tweeted an image from the Instagram message and said, “Ronaldinho sending congratulations to Raphinha after yesterday’s goal … what a journey from Leeds United! From forgotten club to promoted, preferred on TV for attractive games, coach named the best in the world and able to get the attention of so many people.”

All Leeds aren’t we

Dudziak is right – what a journey.

And Leeds are doing it the right way.

According to LUFCDATA, Leeds have created the most chances in the Premier League this season, six more than Liverpool and Man City.

That’s an incredible stat that proves promoted teams don’t have to come up and be dictated to by the big boys.

And, in a stat for ‘Most Shots In A Game This Season’ shown on Match of the Day, four of the top six games are Leeds games. The other two are from Man United and Liverpool.

One Leeds fan said, “This is why we are prime box office.”

Bielsa really has taken the Premier League by storm and shaken things up.

And getting video messages from the likes of Ronaldinho are just part of the journey that Leeds fans are getting to enjoy after so many years of exile.
