‘Boost’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson delighted by early Leeds team news v Huddersfield

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson says it’s a “relief” that Kalvin Phillips is fit to play for Leeds against Huddersfield on Saturday.

Phillips missed the game against Middlesbrough after suffering a dead leg and going off in the 1-0 win against Reading.

He was fit to play in the 4-0 win against Hull but he didn’t look 100% and many Leeds fans were convinced he was still injured.

That led to concern that he might not make the Huddersfield game.

However, in his pre-match press conference, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed there were no new injury issues and that his squad would be the same as the one that won 4-0 last time out.

UPDATE: Phillips has FAILED a late fitness test and has been withdrawn from the Leeds squad. The problem is the same dead calf that kept him out of the game against Middlesbrough.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Phillips was touch and go for the game against Hull but he is always a key player for Leeds.

“A dead leg is an impact injury but it’s a sore one and it’s just a matter of waiting the right amount of time.

“You’d rather miss Phillips for one game rather than four games, especially at this stage of the season.

“He’s hugely missed when he doesn’t play and it’s a boost that he’s fit for the game against Huddersfield.”

Leeds have already seen one of their promotion rivals lose this weekend after Forest went down 3-0 to Hull at the City Ground.

Fulham play in the early kick-off and Leeds could potentially move eight points clear of third if Scott Parker’s side slip-up too.

Every game is crucial now and having Phillips fit is a big boost.
