Blackburn Rovers player slammed for what he did in win v Leeds United
Steve Hothersall slammed Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears for his “dreadful” clearance that he attempted in their Championship game against Leeds United on Saturday.
The keeper scuffed the ball when trying to clear his lines, which meant the ball ended up at the feet of Willy Gnonto, but fortunately for the 26-year-old, his opponent didn’t manage to capitalise on the opportunity in time and Pears ended up saving himself from further embarrassment.
The second-tier clash ended 1-0 to Blackburn, meaning the Whites now find themselves second in the league and three points adrift of the top spot.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (30 November, 13:47pm), Hothersall shared his thoughts on the goalkeeper’s initial blunder.
“Pears made a dreadful clearance which was picked up by Gnonto,” he said. “He had to score and somehow Pears has spared his own blushes by coming out and smothering.”
Daniel Farke and Leeds United can’t let points in the Championship go this easily
Leeds have found themselves in stellar form up until this point and are undoubtedly one of the strongest teams in the league – even accounting for this defeat.
Their form has been second to none and has turned the opinions of many fans and pundits alike, with most now thinking that the West Yorkshire outfit will manage to come away with the title at the end of the season.
However, due to their loss today, that end-of-season goal got a little further away as Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United now sit atop the table.

While they have some of the best players in the league, it feels like there have been points this season where they’ve let their standards slip far more than they should have.
Only time will tell what the end of the season has in store for Daniel Farke’s men, but as long as they can return to winning ways against Derby County next Saturday (7 December), there is no reason for supporters to panic too much just yet.
In other Leeds United news, the club have made a bold attempt to sign a Premier League player in January.
