‘Big, big’ – Alan Shearer delivers Leeds verdict & states what they will do in Premier League

Alan Shearer has said the Premier League will be a “better place” for having Leeds United back in it.

He described Leeds as a “big, big club with a huge fan base” and praised Marcelo Bielsa for the style of football that he’s brought to the club.

He stated that this wouldn’t change in the top-flight and that Leeds would carry on playing their “high-pressure game, with tremendous work rate and energy” in the Premier League.

Writing in his column in the Sun, Shearer said, “The Premier League will be a better place for having Leeds in it. They are a big, big club with a huge fan base.

“They blew it last year when things were going really well for them. But they’ve bounced back well and shown a great attitude and their manager, Marcelo Bielsa, will be an interesting addition too.

“He has got the team playing a high-pressure game, with tremendous work-rate and energy… it will be really interesting to see how he goes about it and how Leeds go about it.

“I don’t think his style of play will change and we will have to wait and see what impact the coronavirus has had on their finances and what they can do about making signings.”

Leeds fans enjoyed a whirlwind 72 hours after beating Barnsley 1-0 on Thursday.

They were promoted on Friday when West Brom lost to Huddersfield and crowned champions when Brentford lost to Stoke.

The Leeds players were given a Guard of Honour by the Derby players at Pride Park and Andrea Radrizzani was given a 2004 vintage bottle of champagne by Mel Morris.

Meanwhile, the Leeds fans partied hard all weekend and will be feeling their heads this morning.

And the season’s not even over yet. Leeds play Charlton on Wednesday at Elland Road, when we’re expecting the Championship trophy to be presented to Bielsa and the players.

It will be the perfect end to a very unusual season but it’s important to remember that Lee Bowyer’s side are still playing for their Championship lives.

For that reason, we expect to see Bielsa put his strongest Leeds side out, although both Kalvin Phillips and Helder Costa will likely be missing through injury.
