‘Bielsa’s bucket has a better touch’ – Many Leeds fans savage ‘League 2 standard’ player v QPR
Leeds United desperately needed the three points in London today and it ended in a disastrous loss with Kalvin Phillips banned for three games.
Things didn’t get off to a good start.
After turning down a decent penalty shout for Leeds early on, the matchday officials failed to spot a blatant handball in QPR’s opening goal.
Leeds had a brilliant chance to equalise before half-time, with Patrick Bamford finding himself with the ball and the QPR keeper well off his line.
It looked like an easy lob but Bamford got it horribly wrong, slamming a shot high into the stand.
He couldn’t have got it more wrong if he’d tried.
It got worse for Bamford in the second half when he missed a penalty. It was soft, no pace and had the look of a spot kick from a man who is utterly devoid of confidence.
Bamford is a great player, he’s been solid for us for most of the season, but when you’re relying on him and only him for goals, it’s not good enough.
Bamford is strong, he holds the ball up well, but he’s just not a natural goal-scorer.
The Leeds problems don’t begin and end with Bamford. ‘Own goal’ is the second-highest scorer for us this season, but you have to look to your striker on days like this.
We need a new striker – that much is clear – but it could be that Leeds actually need a striker who can start.
There are plenty of Leeds fans that feel the same after the performance this afternoon. And the worst thing is Marcelo Bielsa had literally no options off the bench.
