Bielsa confirms new role for key Leeds first-team star, two players back v Millwall

Ben White will play in the defensive midfield role for Leeds United against Millwall, with Kalvin Phillips suspended.

That was the team news from Marcelo Bielsa in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon (live in the LUFC app, 12.30pm).

He also said that there were no new injuries and that this would be the only change to the team.

However, Bielsa didn’t confirm whether Gaetano Berardi would come into the side to replace White in defence.

The stand-in centre-back was injured for the last Leeds game, the 1-0 defeat to QPR, although it was said at the time that his issue wasn’t serious.

He’s the player that we would expect to come in.

Ian Poveda, the winger Leeds signed from Man City, could well be on the bench, although Jean-Kevin Augustin is unlikely to be involved despite signing before the midday cut-off today.

There was more good news from Bielsa as well.

Bielsa said the break had been good for Leeds as it had enabled him to work with White on his new position.

He also confirmed that both Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts would be available for the game.

Roberts has only played nine minutes in the last 10 games and his return will be another boost for Leeds who have been really struggling for attacking options.
