Bent slams Klich after penalty miss

Mateusz Klich has been one of the most important players for Leeds this season but he played the villain last Saturday against Derby.

Given the chance to seal the game and make it 2-0 from the penalty spot, Klich nonchalantly rolled the ball wide, having sent the keeper the wrong way.

He pulled his shirt over his head in embarrassment but his blunder came back to haunt Leeds as Derby plundered an injury-time equaliser with their first shot on target.

Talking to Football Insider, Bent said, “I like it [his penalty technique] but the only thing I’d say about it is don’t miss the target. I wouldn’t even have minded if the goalkeeper dove the right way and saved or caught it.

“I’d go: ‘Okay, it’s a poor penalty,’ but there’s no excuse not to hit the target, especially when you’re calm with your run as well. To roll them in, if you’re going to do that technique, you need to hit the target.

“I don’t care if the keeper saves it, just hit the target.”

Bent makes a good point. It’s not hard to hit the target when you’re just rolling the ball towards the goal.

And, if you’re going to take an unusual line with your penalty technique, you simply have to ensure you get it right.

Colchester’s Jevani Brown has been ridiculed after missing a penalty in the Carabao Cup shootout with Tottenham on Tuesday night.

It was dubbed the ‘worst ever’ Panenka in the Daily Mail but, luckily for Brown, it didn’t cost his side as Spurs crashed out in a huge shock.

Klich cost Leeds two points but it’s now time to put that behind him and move on.
