‘Working his socks off’ – Beckford heaps praise on ‘amazing’ Leeds ace
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford finally broke his long run without scoring a goal on Saturday – after 10 blanks.
His penalty set the Whites on their way to another three points and he didn’t stop there, assisting Jack Harrison for the all-important second goal in the 2-1 victory.
The relief was there for everyone to see at Elland Road as the 26-year-old celebrated the spot-kick like he’d just scored the best goal in his career, and that passion was great to see.
One man who knows about scoring in front of the wild South Stand in West Yorkshire is Jermaine Beckford and the Leeds hero couldn’t hide his excitement once the ball hit the back of the net.
“Absolutely amazing,” Beckford said on LUTV commentary. “I’m absolutely over the moon for the guy, he has been working his socks off.
“He’s been unlucky not to have scored, but today he gets his name back on the scoresheet.
“That’s what’s been lacking from his game, a little bit of confidence, he’s got it back.”
Beckford was spot-on in his verdict of Bamford, who has done everything but score in recent weeks. His physicality and tenacity when leading the line have been integral in every single game this season.
He was our man of the match on Saturday and he got the highest rating of any player on the pitch from WhoScored, with a 7.5.
All Leeds fans will be hoping that this is the start of a run for Bamford. With Eddie Nketiah out he simply had to start scoring again, although we need one from open play next.
The goal was fully deserved on Saturday and while the victory maybe wasn’t as emphatic as it should have been, it’s four wins at home on the bounce and Leeds are starting to find some momentum.
