BBC Sport pundit stunned by what he saw Daniel James do in Leeds United win v Blackburn Rovers

Dan James stunned BBC Sport pundit Jon Newsome after his fine strike was the difference between Blackburn and Leeds on Saturday lunchtime.

The Whites claimed a 2-0 win at Ewood Park thanks to James’ seventh goal of the season, after some great work from Georginio Rutter in the build up, with Cyrsencio Summerville adding another late on.

And reacting to the goal while live on BBC Radio Leeds (9 December), former Leeds defender Newsome labelled it as a “super strike” from the Welsh winger.

“It’s a super strike,” he said. “Dan James has a touch, gets his head up, sees the corner, then bang.”

Beautiful

It’s fair to say that at the start of this season Dan James was not a name that many people in Leeds shirts expected to be singing on a regular basis.

But the Welshman has come back from his struggles on loan at Fulham a completely different player, and Daniel Farke has found a way to maximise his abilities.

Leeds United

His pace is terrific, his work rate is essential to the way this team plays and his selflessness means that the likes of Summerville, Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter can shine in attack.

Most people would have expected him to be the impact substitute and understudy to Wilfried Gnonto this season, but he has outshone the Italian in every way and is fully deserving of his place in the team.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a Whites fan who doesn’t want to see James’ name on the teamsheet before every game right now, and it’s a credit to the u-turn he has completed at Elland Road.
