'Joke' – Some Leeds fans react as BBC man says what Poveda is doing after being axed from squad

New Leeds United signing Ian Poveda has been dropped from the matchday squad to face Nottingham Forest – and fans aren’t happy.

If he’s fit, it’s a step backwards for the 19-year-old winger who has made the bench for the last two games without getting on the pitch.

BBC journalist Adam Pope revealed that Poveda was training at Thorp Arch as the first-team squad made their way to the City Ground.

Poveda was named on the bench for the Under-23s last night and came on to play 40 minutes in the second half.

New striker Jean-Kevin Augustin also played 45 minutes for the Under-23s last night but travelled with the squad to Nottingham and has made the bench for the first time.

We don’t know what to make of this news, except that it’s another blow in terms of the January signings that Leeds made.

One fan thought that he might have suffered a knock in the Under-23s game, which would explain the situation.

However, Athletic journalist Phil Hay said that he thought it was purely tactical.

Two fans thought that Jean-Kevin Augustin would be on the bench with Poveda out – and their prediction has come true, despite a downbeat assessment on the striker’s fitness in the press conference on Thursday.
