BBC Leeds journalist relays new Ch'ship test results, positives hit double figures from 8 clubs

BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope has relayed the latest round of Coronavirus test results from the Championship and the news isn’t as good this time.

1,058 tests were done on Thursday and Friday and 10 individuals tested positive from eight different clubs.

That’s up from two positives in the first round and three in the second round.

Pope relayed the news on Saturday evening on his personal Twitter account.

There’s no news on which clubs have been affected this time around but a third of clubs in the Championship have now recorded positive results in this batch.

[Cardiff have now said that one of their members of staff has tested positive.]

Clubs have come forward themselves previously so we could know the names of the clubs who have been impacted soon.

These results have come after the clubs returned to training for the first time.

Hull, Blackburn and Fulham are the three clubs that were affected in the first two rounds of testing.

It’s not a disaster for the Championship but it’s not great news, especially after the Premier League recorded a clean bill of health from their latest round of testing.

The Championship has gone:

  • 2 positives from R1
  • 3 positives from R2
  • 10 positives from R3

All eyes will now be on the fourth round of testing in the Championship and we’re really looking for these numbers to drop. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher had said that 20 or 30 positive results would have been a worry in the Premier League.

After two positive sets of results, these are a definite turn for the worse but no need to panic yet.

As per the guidelines, the players and staff that have tested positive will now isolate for seven days.
