Athletic: This is what will happen to Leeds and PL if country goes into full lockdown

There are growing reports that England is heading for a full national lockdown as the Coronavirus second wave grows – and that’s a worry for Leeds United fans.

The last time the country was locked down, football was suspended on March 9 and didn’t return until June 17.

However, the tentative good news is that there are no imminent plans to suspend football again.

In a report in The Athletic on Saturday it was said: “The Athletic has been told by three well-placed MPs they have no reason to believe there will be any imminent changes to the Premier League.

“But sources stressed that the situation is fast-moving and unpredictable.

“It is also understood there is also confidence at the Premier League that nothing is likely to change.”

This is good news but it’s still worrying and the report claims the future is up in the air.

The one positive for the Premier League is that there’s a robust testing program in place and the lack of fans means the football bubble is relatively secure.

The bad news is that this is going to push fans coming back into Elland Road further down the track, with the report claiming there won’t be any fans in stadiums for the rest of this year at least.

if the Premier League season was ended early it would be decided on points-per-game.

However, the financial imperative to keep football going will be strong – the effect on the game of another season being disrupted would be massive.

Positive Coronavirus numbers are rising though and it was always thought that a second wave would hit in the winter.

Sadly, that seems to be coming true and further restrictions on people’s lives are expected next week.
