Athletic report details what Bielsa has done to give Leeds promotion advantage
Just what has Marcelo Bielsa been doing while on lockdown?
We always imagined he’d be taking the time to study the game and that assumption was proved correct in a report on the Athletic on Saturday.
Group training has been pushed back until May 25, which means the season restart might get pushed back until June 19.
Bielsa is ensuring there’s no stone left unturned as he looks to give Leeds an advantage when the season returns.
The Athletic said: “Some coaching teams, particularly Leeds, have been using the period to get ahead during in-depth analysis sessions.
“Marcelo Bielsa, for example, has tasked his backroom staff with studying every goal scored from a set-piece situation in Europe’s top five leagues (plus the Championship) this season and identify the most efficient zones for set-piece takers to target.”

It’s hard to imagine Leeds United without Bielsa at the moment.
Fans know that we’re blessed to have him as our manager and snippets like this just reinforce it.
Set pieces have been an issue for Leeds this season but looking at something so specific is likely to result in a minute percentage increase of the chances of Leeds getting promoted.
In Bielsa’s world, however, every 0.1% of a boost is worth fighting for and it’s why he’s managed to take a group of players who finished 13th in the Championship in the 17/18 season to within a whisker of the top flight.
Football is a science for Bielsa and we can’t wait to see how he approaches the brand new puzzle of the Premier League.
The football world is in for a treat and we think that Bielsa might squeeze even more out of his squad of battling champions.
