Archie Gray with Leeds United squad for clash v Arsenal

Archie Gray is with the Leeds United squad and could be in Jesse Marsch’s plans to face Arsenal, according to Beren Cross.

Writing via his personal Twitter account ahead of kick-off at the Emirates, the LeedsLive journalist reported that Gray, 16, is with the squad and so is Liam Cooper.

Cooper, 30, missed the defeat to Manchester City last week.

Never-before-seen

Gray is one of the most highly-rated young players on the books at Leeds United.

However, we’re yet to see the attacking midfielder play for the Leeds senior side.

Could that change on Sunday at the Emirates?

We doubt it.

There’s a lot riding on this game because the Whites could find themselves in the relegation zone by the time the full-time whistle is blown.

If the Whites fail to beat Arsenal and Everton win away at Leicester then Marsch’s men will be in 18th place with three games left to play – one of which being against Chelsea.

There’s too much at stake to experiment with young players like Gray, even though the 16-year-old has had such a good season with the Under-23s and Under-18s.

Leeds do need to start handing more opportunities to their young players because it could lead to them looking for first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Joe Gelhardt, for example, has been under-used by both Marcelo Bielsa and Marsch this season.

Gray’s been superb at youth level but he’s probably not quite ready for Premier League football just yet.

Maybe a loan move is in the offing for him next season or, if we do get relegated, a first-team spot could open up for him.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says it sounds like Marsch will make this major change to his line-up.
