Angus Kinnear delivers Bielsa update with Leeds fans anxious over new deal & players in training
Leeds United are without a manager at the moment. They’re the facts at the moment, although it sounds more dramatic than it actually is.
Marcelo Bielsa’s contract expired at the end of last season and, with players back in training at Thorp Arch, he still hasn’t signed a new deal.
Fans are understandably worried but Leeds chief Angus Kinnear isn’t – and that should ease any concerns.
Leeds podcast The Square Ball spent Thursday afternoon with Kinnear in the boardroom at Elland Road for an upcoming podcast.
They posted an update from Kinnear on Friday morning that read: “There’s lots of anxiety about Bielsa not signing his contract yet, but none was on display yesterday when we met Angus Kinnear.
“He said Bielsa prioritises training and planning for the new season above anything else. It’s just not a priority for him like it is for us!”
Kinnear also said that he, Victor Orta and Bielsa are meeting “almost daily” to work on new transfers.
Prime Bielsa
This is absolutely prime Bielsa.
While fans are desperate for an official tweet from Leeds with white smoke on it, Bielsa is planning his assault on the Premier League.
He knows Leeds want him. He obviously wants to carry on as manager. The contract is something that will get sorted in its own time.
Phil Hay has said that Bielsa is such a stickler for detail that everything in the contract is currently getting checked over by his brother Rafael.
Until it’s signed, Leeds fans won’t be able to rest easy, but it really does seem like it’s just a matter of time.
It’s a situation that just wouldn’t happen with most other managers and clubs, where trust is low and legal agreements are paramount.
We absolutely love it. The stress over the lack of contract is far outweighed by having a manager who works in a completely different way to anyone else we’ve encountered in the game.
