Marcelo Bielsa has finally signed his new Leeds United contract, with the club confirming the news on Friday.

It was expected, after he said he was staying in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, but the Leeds fans are absolutely delighted that it’s done and dusted ahead of the first Premier League game of the season.

Bielsa has signed a one-year contract that will take him through to next summer.

Some Leeds fans were disappointed that it was only a 12-month deal but those in the know appreciate that was always going to be the case.

Bielsa has always worked on one-year deals at Leeds and that was very unlikely to change.

MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson said he thought the delay might have been with the club trying to tie him to a longer contract.

However, Atheltic journalist Phil Hay said that one of the reasons the contract was so drawn out was the added media responsibilities Bielsa would have to commit to in the Premier League.

He doesn’t like doing one-on-one interviews and the Premier League has very solid rules.

However, it never really seemed to be in doubt with Bielsa working through his own legal paperwork over the summer.

The relationship between Leeds and Bielsa seems rock solid and built on trust and we think things couldn’t be better at the top of the club. This is the perfect tonic for the club ahead of the blockbuster tie against Liverpool this evening.

That’s the view of these Leeds fans as well who – if they weren’t before – are now well and truly fired up for the start of the Premier League.
