Ally McCoist has described Leeds United as “fantastic” and “brilliant to watch” but thinks finishing in the top four this season is a step too far.
One Leeds fan phoned the Breakfast show on Monday morning (talkSPORT, 8am) and predicted a Champions League spot for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
However, even he didn’t sound that convinced.
Reacting on the show McCoist said, “We had a giggle at his lack of belief in his own voice. Not at his actual forecast.”
Laura Wood asked, “Do you think they can?”
“No, I don’t. But I tell you what, what a breath of fresh air they’ve been. They’ve been fantastic, brilliant to watch.”
We’ll settle for top 10
Breaking into the top four in their first season back in the Premier League would be a feat akin to Leicester winning the Premier League.
We’re not getting carried away and we still think Leeds will finish around 10th in the league. However, we absolutely believe that at our best we’re now more than a match for any team in the Premier League.
Other fans aren’t as circumspect. We talked to a Liverpool fan over the weekend and he was convinced that Leeds will finish in the top six.
However, while Leeds look brilliant against teams that try and go toe-to-toe with us, we’re not so adept at cracking teams that sit back, like Wolves.
It means that we’d actually prefer to play big teams rather than sides that will sit back from the bottom half of the league.
Leicester will be another sort of challenge. Jamie Vardy is back in form and we’re really hoping that Liam Cooper is going to be fit to play next Monday night.
