‘No excuse’ – Ally McCoist rips into one Leeds player after 4-1 defeat to Leicester

talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has slammed Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling after a blatant dive in the second half of the 4-1 defeat to Leicester.

He said there was “no excuse” for the Leeds right-back, who went down looking for a penalty with the game poised at 2-1.

Talking on the Breakfast show on Tuesday (talkSPORT, 6.30am), McCoist said, “Leeds got a bit of a break to get back into the game with that goal from Stuart Dallas in the second half.

“You won’t be bored watching Leeds this season, that’s for sure.”

However, when talk turned to Ayling and how his dive compared to those from other Premier League players over the weekend he was less complimentary.

“That [Ayling’s dive] was worse. They’re different. I tell you my reasoning or it. There’s no excuse for Ayling last night as there was no contact.

“With Salah and Kane, they’re being clever as there’s contact. Yes, they’ve been fouled but they don’t need to go down.

“The fact of the matter is, there’s a big difference between the challenges on Kane and Salah, and the one on Ayling. That was a blatant dive.”

No defence, m’lud

We haven’t got much of a defence for Ayling, except that he was expecting contact to come from Christian Fuchs.

In real-time, we were on our feet and screaming for a penalty.

When the replay came we sat down and felt a little bit embarrassed. It was a blatant dive that was picked up brilliantly from referee Andre Marriner.

Perhaps the only surprise is that Marriner didn’t opt to book Ayling for diving.

The other thing that we’ve got to say about Ayling is that this is out of character for him.

An honest player, he’s been an absolute standout this season and we’re happy to forgive him for this one transgression.

It’s not what we want to see from Leeds, though, and we know that it’s not what Bielsa wants from his players.
