Alan Shearer hands Everton warning about 'brilliant' Leeds star ahead of Elland Rd clash
Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford after his display in the 3-1 win against Leicester.
Bamford scored one and made the other two in the win at the King Power to leave him on 11 goals for the season – and Shearer has warned Everton that “there are certainly more to come!”
Shearer put both Bamford and Stuart Dallas in his Premier League Team of the Week.
On Dallas he said, “Leeds United’s versatile midfielder scored a goal as part of a fantastic all-round performance.
But he saved his most effusive praise for Bamford saying, “This was a brilliant centre-forward’s performance which had everything.
“Eleven goals in the Premier League is a great return so far, and there are certainly more to come!”
Bamford dozen tonight?
Critics were asking whether Bamford could hack it in the Premier League.
He scored 16 in the Championship last season and should have scored more. He’s already got 11 in the top-flight.
By this stage last season he had only scored seven goals so he’s taken his game up a level and got way more efficient in front of goal.
It means Bamford is on course for a 20-goal season in the top-flight which has to give him a shot at getting in the England squad for the Euros.
That would have seemed highly unlikely at the end of last season.
Bamford is currently fifth in the Premier League top scorers chart and the only forward from a team outside the top six.
A brace tonight could see him out on his own behind Mohammed Salah. That’s some achievement for the 27-year-old and, as a confidence player, we certainly wouldn’t be backing him to blank tonight.
