Gabby Agbonlahor blasts ‘strange’ Leeds United fans as footage of Man City incident emerges

Gabriel Agbonlahor has blasted Leeds United for throwing paper on the pitch as they lost to Manchester City at Elland Road on Saturday.

Jack Grealish was targetted by paper-throwing Leeds fans while, weirdly, Raphinha also had scrunched-up balls thrown at him too.

Ex-Aston Villa player Agbonlahor found it strange to see adults throwing pieces of paper at footballers at a football match and tore into Leeds fans on talkSPORT.

“I wanted to say I want them to phone up and explain why they’re throwing things at their own players, never mind Man City players,” said Agbonlahor, as shown by talkSPORT’s Twitter account on Sunday [1 May].

“That’s what I want them to phone up and explain first.

“I’d expect my six-year-old to do that when the teacher goes out of the classroom, not grown men throwing it at their own players.

“Strange behaviour.”

Grow up

It’s harmless throwing pieces of paper onto the pitch but we’ve had enough incidents this season that suggests that throwing items at players is an issue.

Players have been struck by all sorts of missiles this season and while a piece of paper isn’t going to cause any harm, it just goes to show how some fans think they can get away with anything.

Since the lockdown ended and football fans have been allowed in the stadiums, there seems to have been a rise in the number of fan-related incidents at matches.

Leeds fans have been guilty of many incidents too with players being struck by bottles and being subjected to alleged racist and homophobic abuse.

It’s not on and the fans really need to do a lot better because ultimately, it’s the club who will get punished.

Sure, you can ban an individual but what if it continues to the point that sections of the stadium are closed down or the club is hit with fines?

It needs to stop.

Grow up.
