Adam Pope tears ‘awful’ Leeds to shreds after what he saw v Coventry
Leeds United were “awful” in front of goal in their 2-0 win against Coventry City on Wednesday, according to Adam Pope.
First-half goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle saw the Whites cruise past Frank Lampard’s side away from home on 5 February, but Pope feels they could have had at least five more as they did against Cardiff City on Saturday, 1 February.
The BBC journalist lauded Daniel Farke’s side for playing past the Sky Blues with ease, although he found their finishing to be extremely wasteful.
“This is awful finishing from Leeds on a night when they’ve been so dominant”, Pope said on BBC Radio Leeds, via BBC live blog (5 February, 9:28 pm).
“It could be seven like they scored [against Cardiff] on Saturday.
“They are carving Coventry apart but it’s so wasteful.
“You might think we’re nit-picking, but when you’ve missed three times the amount of chances that you’ve scored…”
Adam Pope right about Leeds United against Coventry City
One would not be wrong to suggest that Leeds United could have scored more than they did against Cardiff at Coventry.
Pope is right about his criticism of the Whites as the likes of Dan James should have done better to make the most of their chances.
Nevertheless, Farke will not have too many complaints about the result as the Elland Road outfit remain atop the Championship table after 31 games.
Meanwhile, things do not look promising for Lampard, who refused to make tactical changes despite seeing his team getting carved by the visitors in the first half.

The Whites continued to have a significant amount of joy against Coventry in the second half, although they failed to add more goals to their tally.
Leeds will now turn their attention towards their fourth-round FA Cup tie against Millwall at Elland Road on Saturday, 8 February.
