Paul Merson has ripped into Leeds United after their defeat to West Ham on Friday night – and the fans aren’t happy.
Talking on Sky Sports Merson said, “I’m worried for Leeds. I’m sitting there watching it and everyone’s getting used to playing Leeds.
“If Antonio plays [on Friday] I think it would have been five or six or seven. I worry for Leeds now.
“Last week against Chelsea was the first time they got really found out and really embarrassed.”
"If Antonio plays yesterday, I think it would have been 6 or 7." 😳
"I look at Phillips – how long will he stay at Leeds?" 🤔

Accurate or lazy punditry?
The win for West Ham means that Leeds have won just one in six, with a run that started with two 4-1 defeats against Leicester and Crystal Palace.
It’s not great. However, Leeds are still in 14th place in the league and above Merson’s beloved Arsenal. After their loss against Burnley on Sunday, perhaps he should be more worried about them?
Leeds are also six points above the drop zone and have a very winnable game on Wednesday coming up, at home to Newcastle.
As a ‘top’ pundit, perhaps Merson should have focused on Leeds losing two international defenders to injury last week.
Or looked in-depth at our inability to defend from set-pieces.
However, what some fans really took umbrage at was the fact that after games against Arsenal and Everton, Merson had been purring about Leeds, only to flip-flop two games later.
It’s “reactionary punditry” as one fan pointed out and many others queued up to have a go at the Sky Sports man, too.
Here are the best reactions to the post from Merson…
So three weeks ago merse after arsenal/ everton was saying we were gonna rip teams apart & finish top 10, now two poor games he worrys we could be getting spanked every week.
Shut up mate ffs 🤣

And if Leeds had Ayling right back , Koch and Llorente at centre back and Dallas left back we might’ve kept a clean sheet….

Don’t worry about us merse. Maybe worry about the clubs below us like sheff utd. If we are bad then what are they?we only need to pick up 7/8 more wins to hit 40pts and I’m pretty confident we can achieve that. wasn’t pretty last night but we all have bad days

Didn’t he say the opposite 2 week ago, and then the opposite again about 2 weeks before that?

Reactionary pundit.

Calm down Merse, ur comparing us against teams who have invested up to a billion pound over the last few years in the premier league. Wev just been promoted from the championship and at least trying to give every team a go. Stupid comparisons to be making https://t.co/WqWFOZDExU

This is getting absolutely pathetic from pundits now.
We’ve held our own against some of the top sides.
Phillips will be staying at Leeds Merse don’t worry about that
We will be fine in the PL this season, there are worse teams than us🙄 #LUFC https://t.co/ST4UAqdOTK

Do like Merse but he seriously doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s a team full of Championship players, it was never gonna be easy. Playing in the Prem with Leeds never looked likely for Phillips because before Bielsa he was beyond average. #lufc https://t.co/Lqz8RffyWN

2 weeks ago he was saying we were top 10! 2 defeats later were going down https://t.co/CWwuNdHe2I

And it begins.
We were the best thing since sliced bread a month ago and now we're going down and losing our best players. 😂 https://t.co/UERLHMTLrr
