Aaron Lennon slams ‘disastrous’ Leeds moment in 1-1 draw vs Manchester United

Leeds United should’ve done better before conceding against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim’s team got a point at Elland Road on 4 December, with Matheus Cunha equalising for the visitors less than three minutes after Brendan Aaronson scored in the 62nd minute.

Lucas Perri may have given Daniel Farke a few moments of frustration in the first half, but the French goalkeeper pulled off some crucial saves after the break.

While fans in LS11 will be satisfied with a draw, the West Yorkshire outfit switched off during a time when they needed to concentrate the most.

Leeds fail to put pressure on Man United after scoring

Aaron Lennon was disappointed to see Leeds putting their foot off the gas after finding the back of the net.

The former England international slammed the Whites for not putting pressure on Man United’s midfielders in the build-up to Cunha’s goal at Elland Road.

It was a “disastrous” few minutes for the West Yorkshire outfit, who seemed to take their eyes off the ball after Aaronson’s strike.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 4 January, Lennon said, “You’ve just got yourself in front, and all you’ve got to do is be calm, stay controlled, take the sting out of the game for five minutes, and it’s a disaster for Leeds.”

The Englishman added, “There’s no pressure on the ball in the middle of the park. Zirkzee picks it up. The backline has to drop. It’s a wonderful run by Cunha, and it’s a great finish. But it’s a disastrous five minutes for Leeds there.”

Leeds are now eight points ahead of West Ham United, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are undoubtedly in trouble.

Daniel Farke has new hero at Elland Road, it’s not Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Aaronson has quietly become a key player for Farke, with three goal involvements in his last six appearances.

The USA international looked lively throughout the game at Elland Road and deservedly got his goal after pouncing on Man United’s error.

The Whites will be confident about surviving the drop after their recent results, and it will be interesting to see how long they can maintain their winning run.

While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been unable to score in the last two matches, Farke has arguably found a new hero in Aaronson.
