Why does Sean Dyche still believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin is underrated at Leeds United?
Sean Dyche has made his feelings on Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin clear.
The 55-year-old has been out of work since he departed Nottingham Forest in February.
He is famed for his no nonsense attitude and his direct style of play.
The Englishman worked with Calvert-Lewin in his days at Goodison Park, but never saw the best of him.
Leeds certainly have, sparking praise from Dyche despite feeling that he could be appreciated more away from LS11.
What has Sean Dyche said about Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
The number nine continued his goalscoring exploits for the Whites as he netted two against Newcastle United on Monday.
That was his fourth of the campaign as his excellent Yorkshire form continues.
He has certainly proved any doubters wrong having already scored 15 last season after his free transfer introduction.
There were reservations over that move, largely due to his prior struggles at Everton.
Dyche was his second to last manager on Merseyside and he has now discussed the striker in his UWN newsletter on Friday.
He wrote, "I obviously managed Dominic at Everton and there’s no doubt he’s an absolute handful on his day. He can run and work the channels, he’s very good in the air and his link-up play is probably a little underrated actually.
"We tried to give Dominic as much time as possible to get him truly match-fit but it never quite worked out. And when you’re not at 100% sharpness, it’s hard for anyone to make the difference at Premier League level, especially strikers.
"But you have to say he’s done very well at Leeds. He looks like he’s made to play for them. And you have to give a lot of credit for that to Daniel Farke, who’s got the team and his number nine purring at the minute. I’ve got a lot of time for Daniel as a person, he’s a very respectful guy. But he’s clearly a very good coach too and it’s great to see him getting the plaudits."
It is clear to see the respect there and it is great to see himself and Farke getting the praise they deserve.
Why has Calvert-Lewin been so good for Leeds United?
The wider footballing world were certainly unsure when the Yorkshire outfit moved for the Englishman.
He has silenced anyone who spoke up against him with a constant stream of goals.
Calvert-Lewin knows what his game is and doesn't concern himself with doing much more than he has to.
He doesn't try and dribble or make risky passes through the lines, the forward just does the basics really well.
That allows him to consistently win duels, be a beast in the air and get into great goal scoring positions in and around the area.
This is something Farke has allowed him to do and it has worked a treat.
It suggests that maybe Dyche got something wrong as he failed to get the best out of Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park.
