'West Brom are okay' – Ian Abrahams claims Leeds face big promotion problem if season ends late

talkSPORT journalist Ian Abrahams has said that Leeds United face a big problem if the season is resumed at a later date and they win promotion.

That's one of the possible outcomes for the Championship after all football was suspended until April 3 at the earliest.

Talking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Monday 7am), Abrahams said that his favoured option is to finish the current season but said if it went into the summer it would cause Leeds issues with Elland Road.

"I think you have to finish the current season however and whenever to protect the integrity of the season," said Abrahams.

"Whether it's in one month or two months time or in the summer.

"I hear the complications around payers' contracts. And there are normally so many things you have to do to your ground to get it to Premier League level... and seriously if Leeds and West Brom got promoted... Actually, West Brom are okay because they've been in the Premier League recently.

"If Leeds got promoted there's so much they have to do to Elland Road. Crazy amounts because of things like media and TV especially.

"There's a lot that needs to be sorted even away from the football pitch."

Playing the remaining games of the season is what everyone's obsessing about at the moment but Abrahams makes a very good point here.

Leeds are holding a senior management meeting on Monday to discuss all the implications of the Coronavirus and issues around Elland Road will be one of the problems they'll be aware of.

These are special times, though, and we can't see the Premier League applying sanctions or even stopping teams getting promoted if stadiums aren't up to scratch because of the season ending late.

It could all be academic at the moment. There's no guarantee that this season will resume and no guarantee that Leeds will be promoted if that's the case.

These are unprecedented times and while the public's health is the most important thing, senior figures at Leeds will be busy on club and league logistics.
