Wilfried Gnonto was spotted clashing with a West Brom physio as Leeds United drew 0-0 with the Baggies at The Hawthorns on Saturday (17 August).

Junior Firpo clashed with Jayson Molumby during the first half, leaving both in heaps on the turf. The challenge saw the Leeds defender pick up a yellow card but the incident did not end there.

The Baggies' physio pushed Firpo out of the way to get to the West Brom player, with Gnonto stepping in to protect his teammate by giving a little shove in return.

Taking to X on Saturday (17 August), Beren Cross wrote: "Firpo collides with Molumby.

"Former checks on the latter, but a West Brom physio pushes the left-back away. Gnonto then comes over and gives the physio a little shove back. Firpo booked.

An opening 45 minutes saw Jayden Bogle, John Swift and Firpo all booked for various incidents at The Hawthorns, but the latter will feel extremely hard done by for his caution.

Firpo and Molumby were both challenging for the ball, with both being hurt after the collision, so no one would have blamed the referee if he had kept his cards in his pocket.

While Gnonto can be a little hot-headed for the Whites, picking up four yellow cards in the Championship last season, Daniel Farke would have been looking for someone to spark the match into life.

After the exit of Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United, and Georginio Rutter closing in a move to Brighton & Hove Albion [Florian Plettenberg], the young Italian winger has the potential to lead the Whites to glory.

Farke will need a new talent to lead the line this season and, having notched eight goals and two assists in the league last term, Gnonto has the potential to be that player.

He will, of course, need to cut back on moments like this one, clashing with the West Brom physio, and mature very quickly, but he has certainly come a long way since handing in a transfer request last summer.
