Urgent times as Leeds United top of transfer list for Sasa Lukic in January
Torino need to renew Sasa Lukic's contract or sell him in January, with Leeds United at the front of the queue for his signature according to Torino Granata.
The Serbian midfielder's contract at the Serie A club is currently set to expire in 2024, and Leeds are closely following his situation ahead of a potential transfer in the winter window at the start of the new year.
But according to a new report in the local press (5 December), the club have made the decision to sell Lukic in January if they cannot agree a new contract with the midfielder to ensure that they are able to cash in on the current interest.
He is currently valued at around €15m (£12.8m), and the two parties failed to agree on terms earlier this year for a new contract.
Torino don't want to be in the same position they found themselves in with Andrea Belotti last summer, as the star man refused to sign a new contract and instead left on a free transfer to AS Roma.
Interesting
If Leeds want Lukic, then the deal is right there to be done and they have no real excuses not to pull the trigger.
In this day and age £13m isn't a lot of money for a player who has got international experience and played in one of Europe's top five leagues impressively, and he would provide good depth and competition for Marc Roca and Tyler Adams in the heart of midfield.
There is some competition for his signature, with the likes of Inter Milan, Lazio and Manchester United named as alternatives but he wouldn't play anywhere near as regularly there and that is part of the problem for him in Torino.
With the player not expected to return to Torino until December 19th, that would leave around two weeks for him to agree a new deal or start packing his bags for Elland Road.
Leeds need additions to avoid another relegation battle, and this signing looks like one that is simply falling into their lap.
