Aston Villa opted to loan Louie Barry to Hull instead of Leeds United as Unai Emery believed Ruben Selles was the "ideal" manager for his development and it provides a telling insight into Daniel Farke.

Since being recalled from Stockport County, Barry was linked continuously with Leeds United but it appears Hull City have won the race for his signature after a medical was booked.

While many were keen to speculate on the reason for the Whites missing out on the forward, Emery has wasted no time in revealing why with Selles identified as the "ideal manager for his young talent" [Alex Crook].

Given Leeds' position in the table, it provides a telling insight into what the outside opinion is on Farke and his ability to develop young players and may be one of the catalysts being their remarkably slow transfer window as of yet.

Have Leeds United missed an opportunity with Louie Barry?

Barry certainly excelled during his spell in League One and they'll be few doubts over his ability to replicate that level of performance in the Championship.

However, with the attacking depth that the Whites have in the wide areas, it may not be as big of a missed opportunity as it seems.

The comments from Emery are somewhat worrying though. Farke has certainly had mixed reviews throughout his time at Elland Road and the idea that other managers aren't keen on having him play any role in the development of their players speaks volumes.

Nevertheless, Barry to Leeds is a deal that very much appears dead in the water and if the Whites are to strengthen their squad, they are running out of time,

The league leaders remain one of the only Championship clubs yet to make a single addition this winter.
