Everton's clash with Fulham on Tuesday 30 January could be crucial in whether or not Leeds United secure a last-minute transfer for Ben Godfrey, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported on Tuesday (30 January) that should the Toffees pick up any further defensive injuries at Craven Cottage, it would make the Everton centre-back less likely to depart Goodison Park before the transfer deadline.

Should Godfrey feature at all in the clash, that would also decrease the chances of him joining Daniel Farke's side this month. But Everton have an incentive to sell, as they would receive a bigger transfer fee now than they could in the summer.

Sean Dyche's side would also rather see the defender move to a team in the Championship, rather than strengthen a Premier League rival at the bottom end of the table.

Wait and see

Leeds United supporters will now be eagerly watching Everton's showdown with Fulham hoping that neither James Tarkowski or Jarrad Branthwaite go down with an injury as that could really scupper Farke's transfer plans.

The Whites need defensive cover this month and Godfrey is the perfect option as the Toffees defender is capable of playing across the entirety of a back four whilst also having plenty of experience in the Championship and under Farke's management.

Leeds should be doing all that they can in the final days and hours of this transfer window, but at the moment they will just be hoping that the decision isn't taken out of their hands on Tuesday night at Craven Cottage.

Hopefully, the entirety of Everton's backline will come through the clash unscathed and Godfrey will remain rooted to the substitutes bench. If that happens, the Leeds may well have a free run for his signature in the final days of the window.
