Leeds United have launched an approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence on a season-long loan deal, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS Sports journalist reported on Monday (28 August) that Ange Postecoglou does not see the Englishman as part of his plans.

There are other Championship clubs keen on signing the 23-year-old as well so the Whites will have competition to complete this deal.

Jacobs wrote on Twitter, "Leeds have made an approach to sign Djed Spence on a season-long loan. Leeds discussed moving last week, as revealed. Nothing done yet. Quite a bit of Championship interest in Spence. Spurs short of permanent sale options. Spence not considered part of Ange Postecoglou's plans."

Makeshift left-back?

Leeds do not need another right-back this season as they've got Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh in that department.

At left-back, the injury-prone Junior Firpo has proven to be a liability and Sam Byram too cannot really be the first-choice option.

Thus, bringing in someone in that position will make sense and that could be the case with Spence.

Right-backs have been deployed as left-backs and there's no reason to believe that Spence will not be able to put in a shift there.

He's a talented defender who's proven in the past that he can shine in the Championship and hopefully, he does that at Leeds if he joins.

A loan deal is not the worst option in the world either as it will be a cost-efficient and low-risk deal for the Whites.
