'Time to choose to enjoy football' – Orta comments on Leeds-linked star who left PL side on Sat
Victor Orta has delivered his verdict on Leeds United-linked goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and it doesn't sound like he's on his way to Elland Road this summer.
ESPN journalist Maks Cárdenas said that Leeds were interested in Bravo in a report in alairelibre.
Bravo, 37, left Man City on Saturday after his contract expired and is currently a free agent on the lookout for a new club.
In an interview with Chilean outlet LaTercera, Orta was asked about Bravo and said, "He has been an innovator. He was a goalkeeper capable of maintaining a very determined style of play, of performing at a high level.
"He's a goalkeeper who's 37 years old and has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon... He is at a time to choose to enjoy football."
From Orta's comments, it seems that he thinks that Bravo should go somewhere where he can enjoy playing football, hinting that his age and past injury issues would rule him out of a move to Leeds.
The Premier League is known for its full-on football and at 37 Bravo could maybe look for a big-money move to the MLS or somewhere similar.
Leeds will be on the lookout for a goalkeeper if Kiko Casilla leaves and that's looking more likely now than it was when the 19/20 number one started against Derby in the penultimate game of the season.
The fan backlash against Casilla was pretty severe and the keeper doubled down on his innocence after being found guilty of racist abuse in an interview recently.
"They never proved that I said anything," Casilla told Mundo Deportivo and we think this makes him a liability as Leeds head into the Premier League.
We'd like to see Leeds move for Man United's number two Sergio Romero. He'd offer the experience that Meslier needs around him, regardless of which of them was given the gloves.
Orta obviously thinks Bravo should seek semi-retirement.
