Spanish fans take James Trafford item as Leeds United goalkeeper starts for England
James Trafford made Leeds United proud as he started for England against Spain on Saturday.
Thomas Tuchel surprised many by choosing the Elland Road goalkeeper over Jordan Pickford at Wembley.
It wasn't meant to be in the Nations League opener, with the Three Lions falling to a 3-2 defeat.
Trafford stood tall and can leave with his head held high after several key saves against the World champions.
Harry Kane and Anthony Gordon scored, with the number nine also missing a penalty before defeat.
Penalties can happen at any time, and the Spanish fans proved after full time that Trafford was prepared for that.
What did Spain fans take from James Trafford?
While it didn't end well, Trafford will remember starting against the Spaniards at Wembley.
He's deserved it too, and is flying at Leeds after his record move to Elland Road from Manchester City.
Trafford will also play against Czechia on Tuesday, before Pickford comes in for the final two fixtures of the break, giving him a great rest.
Spain fans travelled in their thousands to Wembley, and one left with Trafford's water bottle, somehow.
As shared on Instagram by TMJ, fans were outside the stadium holding the bottle, which had penalty information on five players.
Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres were involved.
Leeds will be delighted with England plan
Trafford playing the first two games of four planned during this break is brilliant for the Whites.
Daniel Farke will be delighted for the keeper getting that recognition and playing against the very best.
But, he'll also be happy that Trafford will get a good rest before the Premier League returns on 10 October.
Leeds are returning with games against Arsenal and Manchester United, too, so they'll have to be at the top of their game.
With away trips to Sunderland and Bournemouth to follow that, it won't be an easy month ahead of the Whites when they return.
It was also great to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin come off the bench, it was only for 10 minutes, but this is how far he and Leeds have come in the past 18 months.
