Sheffield United forward Billy Sharp has emerged as a potential target for Leeds United in January, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

It has been suggested though that any potential move is in the hands of the 33-year-old, with reports claiming he has asked to remain at Brammall Lane until the end of the season.

Sharp has joined a list of targets which is starting to grow longer by the day, with Southampton's Che Adams remaining at the top of it.

David Prutton has claimed that he has spoken to Sharp before and suggested that he would relish a chance to return to Elland Road.

"He is a real leader of men and a superb talisman presence for Sheffield United who has done so well to help them get where they are but he needs regular football at his age so I think he would be an option," the Sky Sports pundit wrote in his Yorkshire Evening Post column.

"Having spoken to him in the past and having seen him play it’s one that I think he would absolutely relish."

Patrick Bamford remains as the Whites' only out-and-out striker after Eddie Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal.

There is no doubting that Sharp has proved himself as a prolific forward in the Championship, but any permanent deal would need to suit the Premier League as well in case of promotion.

Sharp is 33-years-old and doesn't exactly fit into that category, so although he may relish the challenge, Leeds may need to look elsewhere.
